Malachi confronts careless worship, unfaithful priests, broken marriages, and withheld offerings after the exile. He promises that God will send a messenger before the day when the Lord comes to purify and judge.
After the exile and temple rebuilding, spiritual apathy has settled over the community. Priests offer defective sacrifices, people question God’s love and justice, and worship is treated as a burden rather than an honor.
Malachi confronts unfaithfulness in marriage, careless teaching, social wrongdoing, and withheld offerings. Through a question-and-answer style, the book exposes excuses and calls the people back to covenant loyalty.
God promises a messenger who will prepare the way and a coming day that will purify, judge, and distinguish those who serve Him. The Old Testament closes with expectation, remembrance of Moses, and hope for restored hearts.
Malachi invites readers to consider faithfulness, worship, messenger and to respond to God with thoughtful faith and faithful action. Its message contributes to the Bible’s larger story of creation, covenant, redemption, and the hope ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
Scripture quotations are from the King James Version (KJV).
